Ann Edwards

Vice-President

email

Ann Edwards has lived in Polks Landing since 1989 and her housemate, Jean Lauder, has been here since 1986.  They love our wonderful neighborhood full of cats, dogs, kids and all kinds of interesting people!  Ann retired from UNC-CH (officially in December, 2003 and, unofficially, in August of 2004) after 30 years, the last 18 spent as Director of Human Resources for the UNC School of Medicine.

You'll usually see Ann walking their two lab-beagle mix dogs, Rosie and Pepsi, or conversing with their five cats - say hi to them!  She hopes to contribute to the quality of our neighborhood while serving on the Board, and she's our official "welcome wagon," so if you're new to Polks Landing, please let her know - she'll have some useful information for you.

Anna Marie Ambrose

Treasurer

email

Anna Marie Ambrose has lived in the Chapel Hill area since 1975. She and her husband, Harland Johnson, have happily been resident Polks Landing homeowners for twenty years. After traveling a bit, Anna Marie completed her studio art degree at UNC then worked in graphic design for many years. She works with her husband's business, Harland Windows & Siding, which has provided sunrooms, replacement windows and other home improvements to the Triangle area for the past twenty years.

Anna Marie's a native North Carolinian and Harland's from Wisconsin but after falling in love with Chapel Hill he has never wanted to move away. They enjoy seeing the world and coming home to sit on the deck surrounded by the sky, the trees, and the wildlife. Anna Marie has served on the board at several different times through the years. She's happy to work towards maintaining the quality of life that Polks Landing has always afforded. She sometimes wonders if this might be her first house and also her last!

Staples Hughes

Secretary

email

Staples and his wife Tamsie have lived on Shalestone since 1988, and Tamsie has also served on the HOA Board in years past.  They raised two children here and Tamsie's father, an expert on antiquarian books (www.kanebooks.com), now rents a house nearby on Creeks Edge.  Staples and Tamsie both attended UNC Law School and lived in Fayetteville for several years before returning to Chapel Hill.

Staples is a lawyer with the NC Office of the Appellate Defender in Durham but his real expertise is as a self-taught drainage engineer, having over time achieved a dry crawl space, except for one stubbornly damp corner which will require a bit more excavation along the foundation, trenching, waterproofing and backfilling with crushed rock, most likely accompanied with some excessive profanity.

David Meister

At-Large

email

Hailing from Buffalo, David and his son Daniel have lived on Creeks Edge since 1997.   They especially enjoy the lack of snow in these parts of NC.  David, Daniel and their Jack Russell Terrier Benson love to hike the abundant trails surrounding Polks Landing, and even the streets seem like a walk in the woods.

David developed an appreciation for the outdoors while obtaining his environmental degree from Paul Smith's College in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid.  After living in the mountains he returned to Buffalo to complete his degree in business management at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and over the years has held positions as Environmental Engineer, Corporate Safety Manager, and Environmental and Safety Consultant.  For the last few years he has enjoyed a career in Safety and         Risk Management.

By being a member of the PLHOA Board Dave hopes to help preserve the Polks Landing lifestyle he and Daniel have grown to appreciate.
